Bret Rawson



Bret W. Rawson is a founding member of Nelson Jones.  He is a seasoned litigator with graduate-level training and experience in crisis communications. He specializes in the representation of peace officers and is a former reserve officer for a local Utah police department where he worked in patrol and in the detectives' division.  His litigation experience involves white collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, and both administrative and plaintiff’s work on behalf of law enforcement officers and their families.

Jeremy Jones



Jeremy Jones founded Nelson Jones along with his partners after graduating from one of America’s top 20 juris doctorate programs at the University of Minnesota Law School. Jeremy’s practice focuses on fighting for the rights of clients embroiled in divorce and other family law issues. Jeremy also represents law enforcement and other municipal employees at administrative tribunals throughout Utah, and before the Utah Court of Appeals.

Nate Nelson



Nate is a founding partner at Nelson Jones. Prior to starting his own law firm, Nate was an associate at Alverson Taylor Mortensen & Sanders in Las Vegas, Nevada and at Mumford Rawson in Salt Lake City, Utah. While in Nevada, Nate practiced in all areas of civil litigation with an emphasis in insurance defense, construction defect, and personal injury. At Mumford Rawson, Nate practiced in all areas of civil litigation with an emphasis in family law.  Nate currently practices in the areas of criminal defense, appellate law, family law, administrative law and personal injury.


Prior to attending law school, Nate graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Midwestern State University, in Wichita Falls, Texas. While at Midwestern, Nate received various scholarships including an athletic scholarship to play shooting guard for the men's basketball team.


Nate attended law school at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law where he received a Juris Doctorate in 2009. During law school, Nate received a CALI award for the highest grade in Civil Procedure and worked as a teaching assistant for the first year legal writing class. He also played on the University of Utah Racquetball Team.


Nate is married and has four children. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, playing racquetball, riding dirtbikes, playing basketball, mountain biking, and fishing.

Nathan Evershed



Because of his experience and skill, Nathan is regarded as one of the best criminal attorneys in Utah. J.C. Jensen



Prior to joining Nelson Jones in August of 2016, Jeffrey C. Jensen (J.C.) enjoyed extensive careers as a Paramedic and Law Enforcement Officer. Although the practice of law is J.C.’s primary focus, he still finds time to maintain and work as a Nationally Registered Paramedic, Utah certified Paramedic, and Nevada Licensed Flight Paramedic. Additionally, he maintains and works as a certified Utah Law Enforcement Officer where he has served in the capacities of Deputy Sheriff/Paramedic, SWAT Operator, Breacher, Scout, and Sniper, Adjunct Instructor, and where he currently works as a Patrol Officer.


J.C. brought to Nelson Jones an in-depth understanding of the law enforcement dynamic, a prominent rapport with Law Enforcement Officers and their administration throughout the state, as well as first-hand experience of the complexities related to divorce. J.C. specializes in the administrative and criminal representation of Law Enforcement Officers as well as family law related matters.

Josh Ostler



Prior to joining Nelson Jones in 2017, Mr. Ostler worked as an associate attorney for the Mumford Rawson law firm, and later Mumford PC, in Salt Lake City, Utah. In that time, Mr. Ostler’s practice was focused on complex criminal and civil litigation. Mr. Ostler played an integral part in vindicating the rights of his clients in several high profile matters, both in Utah and nationally. This included multiple jury trials, ranging in duration

from a few weeks to several months. Mr. Ostler also has extensive appellate law experience, which began when he spent time as a judicial extern for the Honorable Michelle M. Christiansen on the Utah Court of Appeals. Mr. Ostler has obtained favorable results in both state and federal appellate



Mr. Ostler received his juris doctorate from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2012. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Ostler graduated from Utah State University with degrees in history and international studies. Mr. Ostler is a native of Salt Lake County and an admirer of all things Utah, from Cache Valley to Lake Powell. He currently resides in Davis County with his wife and three children.

Rich Willie



Rich Willie joined Nelson Jones while studying at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. His prior experience as a Police Officer, and current service as a Captain in the Utah Army National Guard, make him well-suited in representing law enforcement officers in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. In 2018, Rich also earned his Business Law Certificate from the S.J. Quinney College of law, and received a CALI award for his research on the regulatory structures governing cryptocurrencies. Rich brings a focused understanding of business law to the firm and specializes in representing clients with business litigation and transactional matters.

Sharon Hassan

Paralegal - Administrative Assistant

Sharon Hassan joined Nelson Jones in January of 2015. Prior to that time, Sharon worked as a lead paralegal for one of Utah County’s premiere criminal defense firms. Sharon has extensive experience with criminal defense and personal injury cases and is extremely effective in assisting family law clients. Sharon served as a Hearing Officer for the Drivers License Division where she presided over administrative hearings for various driving offenses including but not limited to points violations, DUIs, and automobile fatalities. Sharon is exceptionally organized, dedicated, and effective on behalf of all of her cases and clients.

Alyssa Rowe


Alyssa Rowe is an administrative assistant at Nelson Jones and joined the firm in April of 2018.
Prior to working as an administrative assistant, Alyssa worked in the property management industry as a leasing agent. A Utah native, Alyssa graduated from Snow College with her Associate's degree. In her spare time, Alyssa enjoys being outdoors, spending time with family, and reading.
